Grandsen Pump and Hydro Power Station Phase 2
- Owner: Calleguas Municipal Water District
- Cost: $20,500,000
Grandsen Pump and Hydro Power Station, Phase 2 is one component of a larger and complex project known as Las Posas Basin Aquifer Storage and Recovery which was launched by CMWD in 1995. This project ensures water supply to Calleguas' system when MWD water supply is not available during emergencies and/or routine maintenance.
Most of the project components are located in central Ventura County and include 30 miles of pipelines, 30 injection/extraction wells, several pump stations and reservoirs and a hydroelectric power generating unit.
This Phase 2 pump station will deliver water to Calleguas' eastern system during emergencies. When pumps are not in operation, hydro generators will produce 400 KW of electric power. To ensure that the facility remains in operation during power outages, large diesel generators are also included to supply electrical power.
Perliter & Ingalsbe was engaged to provide engineering services, including preliminary planning, detail design, permitting, traffic controls, bidding services, and construction support services. More than 245 drawings and 137 technical specifications sections have been prepared. The project is anticipated to be completed in mid to late 2017.
