SMP Control Tank:

As part of more than $100M Salinity Management Pipeline (SMP) project, Calleguas Municipal Water District decided to construct a new control tank and associated facilities for controlling hydraulic grade line and operation of the SMP. This 450,000 gallon control tank (SMP Control Tank) is an aboveground welded steel tank in an unincorporated area of the Ventura County near Camrosa Water District Treatment Plant. CMWD engaged Perliter & Ingalsbe to perform preliminary planning and siting study which was followed by the final design and construction support services.
Major Components and Special Features:

- 50' diameter x 35' high welded steel tank with total storage capacity of 0.45 MG
- Tank foundation and anchors
- Tank appurtenances, including ladders, roof hatches, gravity vent, platforms, manholes, and outlets
- Cathodic protection system
- Containment basin and berm around the site with impermeable liner.
- Yard piping, including 24-inch and 30-inch inlet, outlet, bypass, overflow, and pressure relief welded steel pipes
- Trenchless installation of 42-inch steel casing and 30-inch carrier pipe across the existing concrete channel
- Concrete vaults

- Electrical power supply, controls and instrumentation
- Entrance gate and retaining walls
- Security features, including intrusion alarms, security fencing, etc.
- Landscaping and irrigation system
- Interference with high pressure gas lines and fiber optics conduits and proximity to power poles and overhead power lines
- Limited staging and storage area
- Geophysical challenges because of alluvium soil and potential soil liquefaction
