Ten Pump Station Improvements:

  • Owner: City of Thousand Oaks
  • Cost: $4,000,000

The City of Thousand Oaks brought Perliter & Ingalsbe on board to provide engineering and construction services to upgrade ten existing pump stations involving 25 individual pumps ranging in size from 20 HP to 100 HP. The first phase included field investigation and a study to determine required improvements at each site. The second phase of the project included detail design involving mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls. The third phase included bidding services and construction management with continuous on-site inspection.

Major Components and Special Features:


Electrical Improvements at Each Pump Station:

  • New electrical switchboard with utility underground pull section, utility metering, main breaker, emergency generator breaker
  • New motor control center
  • Pump motor starters
  • Transformers
  • Building and yard lighting
  • New conduit and wires
  • Temporary power system to operate existing facility during construction




Instrumentation, Controls, and SCADA:

  • Pressure transmitter and gauges, and water level transmitter
  • Flow metering
  • New PLC
  • Display panel for data and graphical interface to the control system
  • Power monitor to monitor utility power and facility power usage
  • Hand-Off-Auto pump control
  • Pressure level controls for hydropneumatic pumps
  • Alarms and signals for variety of components
  • Controls for surge devices, compressors, hydropneumatic tanks, seismic valves














Mechanical Improvements at Select Sites:

  • Existing piping replacement and addition of new
  • Existing pump replacement and addition of new pumps
  • Existing isolation, check valve, and pump control valve replacement
  • Surge arresting devices
  • Pump can improvements








Buildings:

  • New buildings for housing pumps and electrical equipment
  • Building included masonry walls, concrete slab, and Class A fire rated roof, acoustic louvers, doors, skylights, and lighting
  • Repair work and improvements to existing buildings









General Site Improvements:

  • Asphalt paving
  • Fencing
  • Painting and coating













Temporary Power and Control Systems at Each Site:

  • Temporary power to keep existing pumps, controls, and instruments in operation
  • Temporary controls to operate pumps, security system, water level transmitters
