Glendale Water & Power (GWP) has adopted a maintenance program to perform mechanical and electrical improvements at existing pump stations by replacing underperforming pump(s) and outdated and old electrical equipment with new. Electrical equipment at Western Pump Station is more than 50 years of age and Pump No. 2 is 34 years of age. The reliability of operation and availability of replacement parts of this mechanical and electrical equipment are of concern to GWP.
City of Glendale engaged Perliter & Ingalsbe to finalize the partially complete design of electrical, mechanical and miscellaneous improvements for the pump station and provide limited construction support services.
Major Components and Special Features:

- Removal and replacement of one 250HP, 4160VAC centrifugal pump and motor
- Replacement of yard piping and valves for the new pump
- Removal of existing electrical switchgear, MCC and control panel
- Installation of new 4160VAC switchgear, MCC, and control panel
- New transformer pad
- New retaining and enclosure walls around new electrical equipment

- Select conduit replacement and new wires throughout
- Proximity to existing belowground concrete reservoir
- Requirement of approval from Division of Safety of Dams (DOSD)
- Facility is located within affluent residential community
- New security gate and general site improvements
