Seven Steel Resevoirs Seismic Valve Installation

  • Owner: City of Thousand Oaks
  • Cost: $367,500

The City of Thousand Oaks determined to install seismic valves on the existing inlet-outlet pipes for seven reservoirs to ensure that during strong earthquakes and pipeline failure, stored water is not drained.

Perliter & Ingalsbe provided a full range of engineering services including preliminary planning and design, final design of the proposed improvements, bidding services, construction management, and continuous inspection.

Major Components and Special Features:

  • Research and evaluate different seismic sensing instrument and select the most suitable one for the application
  • Develop requirements for seismic valve system, including seismic measuring instrument, valve, electrical unit, control, flow meter, communication, etc.
  • Design of seismic valve system components for seven reservoirs

  • Electrical system modification
  • Integration of signals and data between site PLC and central command center through SCADA system
  • General site improvements
